This summer, she reenacted her grandfather’s memorial ceremony in the community rose garden and said, “Every time the mechanical rose blooms, it reminds us that freedom is never a static specimen, but a promise that needs to be constantly wound up.” Today, the fragments of the Stars and Stripes burned by the war are being inlaid into the newly made rose music box by craftsmen.
